  • A Chance Meeting

    Though I hadn't been wandering long, but it was long enough to take me from the greens and wetness of my home, across the sea, and over many, many miles of land, before I ended up in an arid, dry, desolate looking place. Sand was everywhere even in the wind. The small particles I could feel bite into my flesh, despite being covered in fur and feathers. The cloak that I wore, helped some, but it still stung.
    
    It felt like forever wandering through this desert, mouth dry and parched, I hadn't packed enough food or water for this trip, how careless of me. Feeling the onset of dehydration and fatigue, in the distance i saw what looked to be a village. I dare not get my hopes up as I do not want to be disappointed and crushed if its just another mirage.
    
    As I stumbled closer to the horizon, the buildings grew rather than shrank. I didn't want to feel it, but my heart couldn't help itself. Hope. I found hope.
    
    Entering the city I managed to find a public well where the locals obtained their water supply. Though the line was long, I managed to drink a ladle or two full before I was forced out. I didn't care, I finally quenched my thirst. Hunger on the other hand, well that was different. There were many stalls selling food, but I had no coin. Though it was a tempting thought to take a piece, I recalled some of the lessons mother had taught me before she died. I couldn't dishonor her memory by ignoring those lessons.
    
    Wandering through the bazaar I came across a tent that was selling jewelry, each piece was exsquiset and unique, one of a kind even. I struck up a conversation with the merchant, whom I had come to know as Elidi she was a spunk woman, shorter than me even! I didn't ever think that there would be someone smaller than I, this pleased me to beyond measure. Not only was she smaller than me, she revealed something else, she too had feathers in her ears and scattered through her body, just like me. I had to know more.
    
    She allowed me to stay at her tent, I mainly watched the folks in the village go about their business, but when the time came to close the bazaar, Eli came up to me and handed me a gift. A silver necklace that had a moon and star crafted as the pendant, the star had a single gem inside of it, as did the moon. One ruby, the other diamond. I couldn't accept such a gift, but she insisted as it would have been destroyed and reshaped into something else. I had no choice but to accept the piece and then she invited me to her home where she allowed me to sleep, fill my belly, and be safe.
